About Us
York Sunbury Search &
Rescue (YSSR) is one of eleven ground search and rescue (SAR) teams within
the province of New Brunswick. We are comprised strictly of volunteers
who take pride in serving York, Sunbury, Queens and Northumberland counties.
YSSR was founded in 1983
to assist the local policing authorities in search and rescue activities.
The group commenced operations with minimal equipment and a few members
trained in search and rescue techniques. Over the years YSSR has been
involved in numerous SAR operations ranging from finding lost children,
individuals, Alzheimer patients and downed aircraft, to searching for
evidence at major crime scenes. Today, we are a well-equipped team with
a membership averaging 65 persons.
Since 1995, volunteer members of the New Brunswick Ground Search and Rescue Association Inc. (NBGSARA) reported in excess of 31,000 person-hours (306 incidences) responding to calls searching for lost persons in New Brunswick. Additionally 5000 person-hours were reported responding to evidence searches associated with criminal cases.
YSSR Statistics:
Since 2001, YSSR responded to 58
searches totaling 6,761 voluntary hours of service to the community. The team has provided mutual assistance to
searches throughout New Brunswick, traveled to Nova Scotia to assist with
the Swiss Air Search and participated in 2 searches in the State of Maine.
