ABOUT YSSR

Founded in 1983 the York Sunbury Search & Rescue team (YSSR) is a
registered charitable organization dedicated to providing trained volunteers to assist local agencies such as RCMP and Municipal police forces, in ground search and rescue operations in the York, Sunbury, Queens and Northhumberland counties of New Brunswick.

When called upon by the authorities to help in a search, our trained members are ready and able to be deployed into the field on short notice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once on scene the team sets up a base camp and command post near the last known position. Trained searchers are briefed by the teams search managers about the subject and circumstances, divided up into teams and assigned specific areas to search.

When located, the subject(s) is stabilized, secured and evacuated from the area, then taken to the nearest hospital.

On average there are between 5-10 local
searches per year, YSSR also provides
mutual assistance to other search teams in Atlantic Canada and neighboring US states. As a team YSSR members invest over 1500 hours in training and more than 2100 hours in fundraising to pay for equipment and operational expenses.

Over the years YSSR has been involved in numerous SAR operations ranging from finding lost children, individuals, Alzheimer patients and downed aircraft, to searching for evidence at major crime scenes. YSSR is also involved with the City of Fredericton and village of New Maryland's disaster planning.

The "lost without you" campaign is necessary to replace the teams 16 year old Command
Post (cube van) and upgrade search
equipment. Monies raised are to be applied directly to the following equipment and NOT part of the annual budget.
