A Miramichi-area man who'd been missing for more than two days walked out of the woods Monday night – tired and cold but otherwise in pretty good shape.

Martin Cox, 58, stumbled onto a rural highway at about 8:30 p.m., several kilometres from where he lived.

He was immediately picked up by a passing motorist and driven home.

Search and rescue teams, with the assistance of an RCMP helicopter, had been looking for Cox in the Chaplin Island Road area since early Sunday morning.

He went missing Saturday afternoon while clearing a path behind his house.

When he didn't return several hours later, his wife called police.

Cox had recently moved to the Miramichi area from Toronto.

Search and rescue officials speculated that he didn't have much experience in the woods.
