A hunting trip in Beaver Dam went awry for four people Saturday
afternoon when they got lost in the woods.
"The hunters had become disoriented and lost in the woods
within kilometres of the camp," said District 2
RCMP Const. Ron Francis.
"The complainant, who was hunting, was with his two young
children, ages three and seven, and his brother, called for help by calling a
family member."
Members of the York Sunbury Ground Search and Rescue, District 2
RCMP, RCMP helicopter service, along with the Fredericton Police K9 unit
responded to the call.
"While searching for the group, one of the adults came out of
the woods, and members of the York Sunbury Ground Search and Rescue were able
to locate the rest of the group by following the subject back to location by vehicle,"
Francis said.
"These subjects had the presence of mind to remain calm,
build a shelter to keep out of the rain, make a fire to keep warm, and they
hung their hunting vests in a tree as a signal to searchers."
He said the fact that they had a cell phone also helped the
searchers' response Francis said there were no injuries.
