Name of Shooting Victim Released

Fredericton Police are saddened to release the name of the victim of the
overnight shooting which occurred July 15, 2003. Twenty-nine year old
Jacob Waterbury Brooks of Maliseet Drive died of a gun shoot wound early
this morning at the Chalmers Hospital. He was shot in chest while in the
driveway of 163 Jaffrey Street. Police are working to determine the exact
sequence of events, however it can be stated at this time that Mr. Brooks
entered into the driveway shortly after witnessing another man, age 31 who
was being struck by an older model dark colored vehicle with chrome trim.
The vehicle had pushed the 31-year old man down in the driveway when
Brooks arrived on scene.

Two suspects remain in custody while the police continue to pursue all
avenues of the investigation. The RCMP and Edmunston City Police Officers
arrested the suspects shortly after 4:00 a.m. July 15, 2003 near St.
Leonard, New Brunswick. The suspects were turned over to the Fredericton
Police this morning. Details surrounding the weapon are not available and
potential court appearances for the suspects cannot be anticipated at this
time. A team of officers is dedicated to solving these crimes and the
police encourage anyone with information regarding the shooting or hit and
run to call the 24-hour tip line at 460-2934. The media are asked to
