A Cormorant
helicopter joined the search Wednesday for a man who has been missing for four
days in northern
Alister Chalmers, 64, was last seen on Sunday afternoon,
when he went for a walk outside his house in Belledune.
His family
started to worry when Chalmers, a diabetic, wasn't back in time to take an
insulin shot.
A team of 35
people has been searching the wooded area behind the Chalmers home.
RCMP Cpl.
Mark Gallagher said that, after 48 hours of searching, the team decided it was
time to bring in more help, and a Cormorant helicopter arrived in the area from
"With
the condition of the gentleman being a diabetic and the type of temperatures
that we've had lately, it makes our search that much more difficult and that
much more daunting, you know, as time goes on," Gallagher said.
Gallagher said the team isn't looking for people to help
with the search, although he added there are other things they can do, such as
donating food for the volunteers' meals.
There is a
strong possibility that Chalmers is in a diabetic coma, but the search
team is optimistic he will survive, the constable said.
